Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of Assistant Professor - Food Science Technology.

Job Description


  • Participates in the development, compilation, approval and delivery of curricula at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Supervises and mentors academic and non-academic technical support staff;
  • Supervises students’ research papers and projects inclusive of capstone, incubator and internship projects;
  • Reviews students' research paper, masters and doctoral dissertations as an evaluator, participates in defense boards;
  • Compiles methodological materials and teaching aids for subjects and/groups of subjects;
  • Participates in the training process of a new generation of researchers in his/her area of expertise;
  • Leads academic research projects/ programmes;
  • Participates in research conferences and seminars;
  • Submits reports about teaching activities, publications, research and outreach activities;
  • Develops and maintains relationships with other universities, research institutions and companies;
  • Oversees labs and personnel, develops viable incubators and supports pilot plants/processing systems;
  • Operates moderate to sophisticated laboratory and food equipment;
  • Provides service to the University and/or Community/Society;
  • Any other related duties.



  • Ph.D. in Food Science & Technology or related discipline from a reputable university with a blend of academic, research and industrial experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years at a senior level actively involved in teaching and other scholarly activities in an institution of higher learning or equivalent Industry experience in the Food & Beverage sector will be considered



  • Demonstrated scholarly activity  including recent evidence of Peer Reviewed Technical Publications in Food or related discipline
  • Demonstrated theoretical and professional knowledge of the Food Science and Technology discipline
  • Demonstrated competence with course content
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated application of pedagogy
  • Demonstrated active engagement within the Food and Beverage Industry
  • Knowledge of Research Methodologies and use of Statistics
  • Knowledge of Food Regulations and Food Engineering Systems will be an asset
  • Experience with new product and packaging development
  • Evidence of best practice/analytical skills/laboratory accreditation
  • Experience with grant writing and ability to obtain grants is desirable
  • Must have strong leadership skills, be a team player, a problem solver and customer focused.
