Job Description

The Course Development Department (CDD) in the Academic Programming and Delivery Division is inviting applications for part time course developers in the of field of Economics to develop materials for online courses in the BSc Economics programme. The position is funded by the “Strengthening Distance Education in the Caribbean” (SDEC) financed by Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The course developer will be guided by a Curriculum Development Specialist (CDS) or an Instructional Designer (ID) and work in a collaborative online space, for the duration of the course development activity. In execution of the responsibilities the course developer will be expected to develop and manage his/her work schedule to complete assigned tasks by agreed deadlines.

 

The responsibilities of the course developer include:

  1. Development of a course plan to include instructional topics and learning objectives for each topic to be covered in the course
  2. Collaboration with members of the UWI Open Campus course development team in the designated online space to ensure that the course content is:
  1. gender sensitive,
  2. inclusive and respectful of diversity,
  3. complements that of other courses in the programme and,
  4. that course materials, including multimedia elements, are consistent across courses, in keeping with the academic programme objectives outlined in the academic programme proposal
  1. Production of content that conforms to the Course Development Department’s guidelines to include the approved number of course units, assessments, table of specifications, readings, multimedia scripts and learning activities outlined in the course plan.

 

In the execution of these responsibilities, all course design and development processes must be in accordance with the protocols and methodologies employed by the UWI Open Campus, and in keeping with the guidance provided by the assigned Curriculum Development Specialist or the Instructional Designer, as applicable.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s degree in either Economics or Finance or a discipline relevant to the content area for which he/she is applying.
  • Professional qualification in lieu of a Master’s degree in the content area for which he/she is applying.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a practitioner in a related field

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS

  • Reliable access to a computer with fast-speed Internet connectivity
  • Good working knowledge of the Internet and use of Microsoft Office products
  • Good written communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to be creative, flexible and innovative in course design
  • Ability to produce content to meet the needs of a regional and international student clientele
  • An understanding of the application of adult learning principles and methods

 

Teaching/training experience at the tertiary education level, in the public sector or in industry would be an asset

 

N.B. All shortlisted applicants will be required to participate in an online practical test and interview process

 

REMUNERATION

Course developers will be paid a fixed fee on satisfactory completion of all assigned tasks.
