Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluates and treats patients with acute and chronic complaints related to specialty, according to written standardized procedures
  • Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new patients according to written standardized procedures
  • Obtain interval histories and performs pertinent examinations on return patients
  • Performs,  requests and/or  evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient according to written standardized procedures
  • Orders and provides medications according to written standardized procedures and medical directives (as articulated in the Therapeutics Medical Directive for each Specialty)
  • Performs designated procedures as per specialty where applicable
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community
  • Recognizes situations which require immediate attention of a physician and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary – as governed by the NP's scope of practice
     

Qualifications &/ Registration required:

  • Graduate degree in Nursing
  • Certified as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited Nursing organization
  • Certification in Cardiovascular Nursing or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years nursing experience with 3 years clinical experience managing cardiac patients. Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Experience in managing Heart Failure preferred
  • Experience in performing stress testing
  • Exposure to Cardiac Device Care an asset
