Boiler Operator (LMO/TS5) - Falmouth Public General Hospital

CORE FUNCTIONS:

• Monitor and operate high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment in the steam plant through observation of the digital console and making the necessary adjustments via the distributed control system to ensure maximum efficiency within limits 
• Prepare, service, repair and monitor water and chemical treatment systems to ensure proper and safe operation of the boiler 
• Test boilers for first and second low-level water alarms and controls for effective functioning 
• Test flame failure devices and inspect water gauge glassto ensure that it is not broken or discoloured 
• Ensure that the water softener system is functional and that treated water (within specification) is supplied to the boiler 
• Record and maintain a log of meter and gauges readings such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• An Associate Degree, Diploma or Level 4 Certification from a college/university/HEART Training Institute in Mechanical Engineering/Plumbing 
• A minimum of years (2) years experience in a similar capacity 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Working knowledge of electrical system maintenance and plumbing 
• Ability to use hand and power tools of the trade skillfully and safely 
• Good written and oral communication skills 
• Good accountability and supervisory management skills 
• Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills 
• Good planning, organizing and time management skills
