Job Summary

Supports the implementation of the Integrated Management Information System by creating and maintaining database structures, and maximizes system performance; creates and maintains other user databases within the Ministry

Job Description

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and maintains specifications for IMIS database structures, including triggers, stored procedures and secondary keys
  • Identifies and implements modifications to increase system performance
  • Provides desk top support services to MNS and JCF Finance Branch
  • Writes technical and non–technical material and provides technical writers with information needed to prepare and maintain user manuals and necessary computer operation instructions e.g. outlook presentation
  • Troubleshoots problems relating to the linkages between the MNS IMIS databases and those of its departments and agencies
  • Implements security measures for databases that have been developed
  • Arranges critical training for staff
  • Performs regular checks to ensure database integrity and availability
  • Develops standards for best practices
  • Reviews project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project
  • Develops standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information
  • Tests programs or databases, corrects errors and makes necessary modifications
  • Implements and enforces database access policies
  • Enforces database security and identifies areas for improvement
  • Develops, manages and tests backup and recovery plans

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Working knowledge of relational database management systems such as SQL server, MYSQL and Oracle
  • Working knowledge of Triggers, Stored Procedures and Database Integrity concepts (Referential Integrity & Data Integrity)
  • Sound knowledge of database transformation and migration techniques
  • Sound decision – making and problem solving skills
  • Ability to interact with users in non technical clear terms
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, Computer Studies or other related field.
  • Four (4) years working experience in IT related field.
  • Two (2) years professional experience in database administration

  • Own and operate motor vehicle
  • Work outside of regular hours, weekends may be required
  • Must be willing to participate in additional local and overseas training necessary for development in the post

 

Salary Scale: $1,587,379 – $1,886,895 Per Annum
Full Upkeep: $707,448 Per Annum
