To provide transportation services to the Department’s staff and associates as required from time to time.

The Driver is responsible for ensuring that the motor vehicle assigned is properly maintained, mail and/or packages are delivered and collected, as per instructions. 

 

KEY OUTPUTS

  • Mail delivered/collected in a timely manner. 
  • Motor vehicle maintained as per GOJ/ AUGD guidelines and standards
  • Staff and other transportation services provided in a timely and safe manner 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Collect motor vehicle from parking garage daily and check to ensure its functionality and that there is an adequate supply of fuel to complete assignments for the day. 
  • To make requisition for fuel as needed and ensure that usage is in keeping with monthly budgetary allocation for unit.  
  • To maintain the daily assignment record book on the use of the motor vehicle. The Record book must be updated after each assignment and signed by Authorizing Officer in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. The book must be presented to the Office Manager with requisition for fuel at all times. 
  • To ensure that the Gasoline Requisition book is signed on receipt of Gas Card and that the Cards are returned on the same day of dispatch or within 30 minutes for the next working day. There should be no more than one un presented Card for each review period. 
  • To ensure that the motor vehicle records (fitness, registration, insurance) are up-to-date and that the required renewals are in keeping with government regulations. A copy should always be kept in the vehicle. 
  • Ensure that accidents are reported to the Police within 24 hours and that a Customer Reference Form is received for each accident. A written report of the accident should then be submitted to the Officer Manager within 2 days along with the Accident Report Form.
  • Collect and deliver mails, goods, material and equipment for the Department from suppliers and other organizations and ensure that Delivery Books are signed and delivery made in accordance with daily schedule 
  • To clear Post Office Box each day on behalf of the Department. 
  • To conduct special errands on behalf of the Department as directed by the responsible/authorised officer from time to time. 
  • To perform any other related duties which may be assigned from time to time. 

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Mail delivered and collected daily. 
  • Files, packages and correspondence delivered/collected as requested.
  • Condition in which the vehicle is kept on a daily basis. 
  • Timeliness with which vehicle records are updated and/or renewed. 
  • Safety and timeliness with which staff and associates of the Department are transported

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of Secondary level education; 
  • Should be able to pass drivers’ test from National Works Agency;
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a similar position. 

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

  • Must be the holder of a General Driver’s Licence;
