The incumbent is responsible for transporting authorized persons, delivering and collecting mail, documents stationery and supplies, equipment furniture, etc.


Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Secondary School Certificate
  • Possesses a valid (PPV/CMC ) General Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • National Works Agency (NWA) Driver’s Certification
  • Four (4) years’ experience operating as a career driver
  • Knowledge of auto mechanics would be an asset
  • Good road map reading skills would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of basic office administrative regulations and procedures would be a distinct advantage

Summary of Duties:

  • Transports staff members on island-wide official business trips as directed.
  • Transports official visitors from overseas on business travels to specified locations.
  • Collects documents, goods, furniture and equipment on behalf of the Institute as required.
  • Makes island-wide deliveries to field offices as required.
  • Maintains the assigned fleet vehicle in immaculate condition and in keeping with established standards at all times by:
    • Complying with maintenance schedules in accordance with departmental guidelines;
    • Identifying by observation and examination, worn tyres and other malfunctioning operational parts;
    • Facilitating minor repairs of vehicle as directed by the Transport and Maintenance Supervisor;
    • Providing written reports on vehicle if defective or if it has developed mechanical problems and reporting malfunctioning vehicle to the Transport and Maintenance Supervisor upon detection;
    • Checking the vehicle before use to ensure proper functioning; and
    • Assuring the safety of the assigned fleet of vehicles when in use.
  • Ensures that the vehicle is licensed and certified as road-worthy at all times.
  • Inspects the vehicle to ensure that repairs are properly done.
  • Exercises proper fuel management practices.
  • Presents the key of the vehicle to the Security Officer upon completing work on a daily basis.
  • Assists with the loading of items to and unloading of items from vehicle as required.
  • Maintains the vehicle log on all travel by recording the mileage before and after, time of use and locations visited for the day.
  • Ensures the security and safe-keeping of the vehicle and contents, accessories and tools.
  • Reports all accidents promptly to the relevant authorities and prepares accident report for submission to Transport and Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Keeps abreast of guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation impacting deliverables.
  • Participates and attends meetings as directed.
