Job Summary

CMMB is seeking professionals, 21 years and older, who can serve for a minimum of 6 months in the public health volunteer position of Field Nurse Practitioner.

Job Description

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
  • Participate in training and instruction of students, auxiliary workers and community members
  • Instruct patients and families on topics such as health education, disease prevention, and childbirth; develop health improvement programs
  • Perform examinations, order tests, and make tentative diagnoses and recommendations
  • Develop and update patient medical histories and progress notes
  • Collaborate with health specialists and civic groups to determine community health needs and co-develop need-based goals
  • Distribute health education materials
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of trainings for healthcare workers and community mobilizers
  • Implement initiatives to educate the community about health topics and resources
  • Participate in project site visits, project-related trainings and events
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor and/or CMMB staff

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Must be 21 years old
  • Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current license to practice nursing
  • Community Health Worker Certification preferred
  • Minimum one year of experience in health care environment or community involvement
  • Experience in health care in developing countries preferred
  • Knowledge of professional and ethical standard of health care delivery and practice
  • Capacity to administer treatment to patients while dealing with them in a sympathetic and tactful manner
  • Ability to recognize and interpret symptoms
  • Ability and willingness to provide guidance to staff members
  • Familiarity and interested in global health issues, especially maternal and child health issues
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be flexible and prioritize projects and tasks effectively; self-starter; takes initiative
  • Problem solver, able to identify needs, and develop solutions
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office tools.
  • Willingness to endure resource-limited working conditions and evening/weekend hours
  • Proficiency in English; strong communication skills
  • Intermediate French or Haitian Creole
