Job Summary

Responsible for monitoring and evaluating technical standards through gathering and collating data from technical audit and independent reviews/assessments as well as assisting in the inputs to the development of forest management plans.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AREAS:

  • Provide support in updating and monitoring and evaluation tracking database by generating data on the progress activities being implemented under a Forest Management Plan
  • Conduct technical field assessments with respect to agreed standards and/or operational procedures generating relevant data to assist in the generation of Technical Audit reports
  • Carry out field assessments in relation to requested independent audits/inventory/assessment ensuring that all data collected/generated is adequate and accurate.
  • Conduct basic statistical analyses on generated/compiled data.
  • Develop and maintain a data management system using Excel, Access, or other data management and analysis software and provide day to day quality assurance on data and ensure that database is current
  • Draft technical and monitoring & evaluation reports as requested.
  • Assist with the implementation and capture of information from internal and public review sessions relation to technical audits and local forest management plans
  • Work independently and in a collaborative environment while applying effective teamwork, leadership and interpersonal skills.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Physical fitness to hike moderate to long distances off the beaten track in order to conduct the required field assessment and data collection.
  • Experience with ground navigational skills by compasses, maps and/or the use of hand-held GPS equipment
  • Knowledge of field assessment, sampling and monitoring and evaluation methodologies (i.e. both quantitative and qualitative data collection, processing and analysis)
  • Ability to interpret spreadsheets and statistical data;
  • Experience in evaluation, monitoring and result based management;
  • Working knowledge of Dendrology
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet database (e.g. MS-XL) functions
  • Ability to work and communicate productively and safely with an eye for details, in remote locations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • ASc in Forestry, Agriculture, Natural or Environmental Science/Management or related area
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access required and any statistical package;
  • At least two (2) years of field or monitoring & evaluating related experience. 

OR

  • Any related combination of training and field experience
