Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are being invited to apply for the position of Forest Technician – Planning and Monitoring (Level 5)- 2 posts

Job Purpose:

Under the general direction of the Planning and Monitoring Manager, the incumbent is responsible for evaluating technical standards through gathering and collating data from technical audits and independent reviews/assessments as well as assisting in the inputs to the development of Forest Management Plans. The work will include traveling to remote locations to assist in field validation and verification assessments.


Key Responsibility Areas:                 

  • Collect information on progress of each activity of a project being implemented under a Forest Management Plan, and enter the information into database platform;
  • Provide support in updating an M&E tracking database;
  • Provide assistance in verification assessments, data collection, and data delivery to the  Technical Auditors;
  • Ensure field data is gathered and registered, ensuring the quality of data entered and assisting in producing initial statistical analyses. 
  • Participate in and coordinate the timely collection and analysis of all program performance data from local forest management plan
  • Provide day to day verifying data quality and ensure all data is input into database platform and analyzed in an integrity manner;
  • Develop and maintain a data management system using Excel, Access, or other data management and analysis software;
  • Prepare reports of local FMP M&E  data, as required for reporting;
  • Participate in inter-divisional related activities to achieve the Agency’s objectives


Required Competencies

  • Physical fitness to hike moderate to long distances off the beaten track in order to conduct the required field assessment and data collection.
  • Experience with ground navigational skills by compasses, maps and/or the use of hand-held GPS equipment.
  • Knowledge of field assessment, sampling and monitoring and evaluation methodologies (i.e. both quantitative and qualitative data collection, processing and analysis).
  • Ability to interpret spreadsheets and statistical data;
  • Experience in evaluation, monitoring and result based management;
  • Working knowledge of Dendrology
  • Ability to work and communicate productively and safely with an eye for details
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary


Minimum Requirements:

  • ASc in Forestry, Agriculture, Natural or Environmental Science/Management or related area
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access required and any statistical package;
  • At least two (2) years of field or monitoring & evaluating related experience. 


  • Any related combination of training and field experience


Basic Salary: $1,142,074.00 -  $1,414,355.00 per annum, plus applicable allowances
