HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited is seeking a Head of Balance Sheet Management (BSM)

Job Description

The Head of Balance Sheet Management (BSM) is responsible for the ongoing implementation of the BSM strategy, optimising revenues, whilst ensuring compliance with HSBC’s Credit, Market Risk, Asset and Liability, and Regulatory policies/guidelines. The position reports to the Head of Global Markets in Bermuda and to the Regional Head of BSM Europe.

Major responsibilities

  • Manage the interest rate risk position transferred to BSM from the bank’s day to day activities 
  • Determine a forward looking interest risk (e.g. Price Value of a Basis Point) profile by currency for the bank and implement this in BSM using interbank placements and the fixed income and derivatives market 
  • Management of internally and externally generated liquidity, thereby meeting the liquidity risk appetite for the bank at all times 
  • Ensure positions are squared and deficits financed accordingly 
  • Production of daily P&L estimates 
  • Attend the Bank’s monthly Asset and Liability Committee and various other internal committees 
  • Lead a small BSM team in Bermuda 

Minimum qualifications

  • University Degree with a minimum of nine (9) years’ experience in a Financial Institution or Global Markets Organisation 
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in liquidity management as well as management of investment and liquidity portfolios 
  • Extensive knowledge in market trends, treasury functions, international finance and investment instruments 
  • Incumbents with previous senior management positions in geographically matrixed organisations would be an asset 
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver often challenging revenue/return targets, whilst maintaining an appropriate balance from a risk/control perspective 
  • Proven trading experience in various asset classes is preferred, including rates, fixed income and FX 
  • Collaborative team orientation, with the ability to be self-directed and entrepreneurial, and excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
