St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time Instructor position, in the Small Animal Clinic in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 7/1/2021.
 

Objective

The faculty of St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine are dedicated to upholding the mission of providing an international, culturally diverse environment in which students learn the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for postgraduate training in the Veterinary profession while being inspired to develop compassion, curiosity, tolerance and a commitment to animals and society, a dedication to life-long learning and an understanding of the vital role of research in Veterinary Medicine.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsibilities in clinical services, teaching, diagnostic services.
  • Work with emergency cases and after hours shifts on a rotational basis, including but not limited to overnights and weekends.
  • Willingness to  work with veterinary students in a clinical educational setting.
  • To be available to work all year round, except for a 30 days vacation period.
  • Participate in clinical and academic teaching services offered by the SAC including oversight and supervision of students while on companion animal medicine rotations, management of in house cases, outpatient procedures, medicine consultations, routine and emergency surgeries, and daily cage side rounds.
  • Expected to teach clinical courses offered by the Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Department including but not limited to physical exam laboratories, clinical communication laboratory, practical laboratory or rotations in medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, and shelter medicine.
  • Instruction of students in all aspects of general practice and emergency and critical care, clinical teaching of third year veterinary students, and primary case management and oversight of patients admitted to the SAC on a daily basis.
  • Participate in research projects and oversee students.
  • To contribute to collaborative research projects between SGU and affiliate schools.
  • Provide   lectures and we-labs for student clubs.
  • To actively participate in faculty activities, which include membership of various Committees.
  • Dedication to outstanding service and client communication is highly desired. 

Research & Scholarly Activities

  • Develop and contribute to extension and continuing education programs, in collaboration with other departments and/or other schools.
  • Collaborate with SVM faculty in other departments on research projects  

Participate in the following University Activities

  • Faculty Senate
  • Departmental Meetings (when required)
  • Departmental Faculty evaluations (when required)

 

Qualifications:

  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a positive attitude toward student enrichment in all areas of academic and clinical/practical preparatory coursework.

  • This is a full time position in the Caribbean island of Grenada.
