Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, from a recognised university: 

• PhD or equivalent Doctoral Degree, which should be in Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a closely related discipline 

OR 

• An MBBS/MD or equivalent medical qualification, with postgraduate training in Physiology or Basic Sciences 

Candidates should also possess:

• Evidence of prior participation in academic conferences, workshops, or symposia
• Strong foundation in Physiology, Anatomy and Biochemistry

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

• Experience in curriculum design, integration, and assessment (e.g., OSCE, MCQ, problem-based learning)
• Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate students
• Application of evidence-based teaching metods and assessment strategies 

The following would be considered assets:

• Certificate in university teaching and learning
• Certificate in medical ethics or communication skills for doctors
• Fellowship or membership in a recognized professional body (e.g. American Physiological Society, International Society of Nephrology, American Gastroenterological Association
• Demonstrated teaching excellence in Medical or Health Sciences Education
• At least three (3) years’ teaching experience in Medical or Health Sciences Education
• Evidence of scholarly output in peer-reviewed journals relevant to GI or GU sciences
• Evidence of published research in Gastrointestinal or Genitourinary Physiology, Nutrition, Metabolism, or Renal Sciences
• Experience with simulation-based education or OSCE station design
• Prior involvement in international collaborations or cross-border medical education initiatives
• Strong foundation in Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Physiology, Anatomy, and Biochemistry
• Integration of Pathology and Pharmacology relevant to GI or GU Systems

Candidates should be registered or be eligible to be registered with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.  

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions with students in Physiology, GI or GU Basic Sciences
• Contributing to teaching the Pathological Basis of Disease across all physiological systems in Years 1 and 2
• Designing and implementing assessments aligned with course learning outcomes (eg OSCE, written exams, practical tests)
• Supervising student projects and providing academic advising
• Contributing to curriculum development and accreditation processes (CAAM-HP standards)
• Engaging in scholarly activity, including research and publicationCollaborating with colleagues across disciplines to ensure integrated teaching
• Promoting professional values, ethics, and communication skills in medical education

Personal Attributes
