Job Description

The successful candidate will provide proactive service to all stakeholders including students and faculty, in harmony with the goals and objectives of the Mona Library and specifically the Law Branch Library. Working closely with the Librarian in charge in support of the Faculty of Law, the librarian will actively assist in teaching and research through liaison and information literacy duties; assist with the supervision of staff, marketing and outreach activities as well as proposal and grant writing.

The duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Providing legal reference services to all stakeholders; 
  • Managing the Law Branch Library; 
  • Training students and staff in legal research, library related computer applications and procedures; 
  • Facilitating presentations as part of orientation or training of students and faculty in the use of library resources as well as teaching assigned by the Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU); 
  • Scrutinizing graduate thesis assigned by the Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU)
  • Organizing relevant displays and exhibitions 
  • Assisting with database development and management 
  • Assisting with the library’s digitization programme

Essential Qualifications And Experience: 

  • Graduate degree in Library and Information Studies OR undergraduate degree in Librarianship and a graduate degree in another discipline 
  • A minimum of five (5) years working in a library, two of which should preferably be in a law library 
  • Legal certification and/or advanced training in legal resources 
  • Demonstrated commitment to research and scholarship especially in the field of Library and Information Studies

  • Proficiency with English legal system information resources, both in print and electronic formats 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and client service skills 
  • Team building skills and customer oriented approaches 
  • Modern law library management skills with strong reference background and marketing skills 
  • Leadership skills in a collaborative environment 
  • Technologically savvy, with demonstrated competence in integrated and discovery library systems 
  • Grant and proposal writing knowledge 
  • Knowledge in Library online systems
