Key responsibilities include:

  • Attend Chief of Medicine Rounds as required
  • Department of Medicine meetings as scheduled
  • Clinical Meetings (lunchtime) as scheduled
  • Daily Ward Rounds with Clinical Coordinator on Medical Wards
  • Attends ward rounds weekly interdisciplinary rounds
  • Liaison with Attending Physicians (GP and Specialists) regarding care, referrals, discharge planning, etc
  • Medical Officers will rotate for a two month period.  Exception:  The Paediatric Officer is permanently assigned to Gosling Ward, with additional duties attending Medical patients as directed
  • Schedule:  0800 to 1600 hours, Monday through Friday
  • Responsible for rounding on medical overflow patients
  • Daily ward rounds with the Clinical Coordinator on Wards
  • Makes daily progress notes in each patient’s chart
  • Admits all patients to Ward from 0800 to 1600 hours, including patients coming to the ward from ER, ICU and other areas
  • Discharge summaries on Curtis Ward and Perry medical patients completed on the day of discharge (no exceptions)
  • Provides a daily “hand-over” of ill patients to Medical Officer on call at 4:00 p.m
  • Rotation is for two (2) months and the Medical Officer is not allowed to take vacation during this rotation

Qualifications &/ Registration required:

  • An MD or suitable equivalent i.e. MBBS or MBChB from an accredited University
  • Minimum of One (1) Year, preferably Two (2) years of Internal Medicine training/experience
  • Must be proficient in CPR/BLS/Neonatal Resuscitation and possess current ACLS certification
