The Programme Development Officer supports the creation and management of national programs to prevent and control chronic diseases and injuries, using evidence-based strategies and data to align with health priorities.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Medical Epidemiologist, Chronic Diseases and Injury Prevention, the Programme Development Officer provides support in the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of national programmes and policies aimed at preventing and controlling chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries. The incumbent will also be responsible to ensure that evidence-based strategies, surveillance data, and research findings are translated into effective interventions that reduce morbidity, mortality, and risk factors associated with chronic diseases and injuries, in alignment with national health priorities and international commitments.                                                                                                                      

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • National strategies, plans, policies, programme proposals and project documents for chronic disease and injury prevention initiatives developed and implemented.
  • Chronic diseases and injuries Interventions monitored and evaluated
  • Research programmes to determine trends, risk factors, patterns and consequences of chronic diseases and injuries initiated
  • Epidemiological and programme data on chronic diseases and injuries analyzed 
  • Monitoring and evaluation frameworks for chronic disease and injury programmes developed and implemented.
  • Chronic Diseases and Injuries Public Education initiatives supported
  • Capacity-building support provided
  • Monthly/Quarterly Ad Hoc & Annual reports prepared and submitted 
  • Technical Support provided
  • Individual workplan developed 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.Sc. in Behaviour Sciences, Health Related Science or equivalent
  • A minimum of three to Four (3-4) years work experience in the health field
