The Programme Officer supports the implementation, coordination, and monitoring of national cancer control initiatives, contributing to policy development and evidence-based interventions.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Programme Development Officer – Cancer, the Programme Officer provides technical and administrative support in implementing, coordinating, and monitoring national cancer prevention and control initiatives. The officer will also contributes to the development of evidence-based policies, programmes, and interventions that address the prevention, early detection, treatment, and surveillance of cancer in execution of national cancer strategies and plans in keeping with the Ministry’s policy directives.

  • Cancer programme activities and projects coordinated and monitored.
  • Cancer data collected, validated, analyzed, and reported
  • Research proposals and project documents developed
  • Strategies, Plans and programmes developed and implemented
  • National cancer registry/database maintained and updated.
  • Reports on programme performance, outcomes, and impact prepared and submitted
  • Programme/Project implementation assessments conducted
  • Cancer programme evaluations conducted.
  • Cancer health promotion and communication strategies developed and executed.
  • Quality of care audits conducted.
  • Reports prepared and submitted
  • Individual Work plan prepared and submitted

Technical Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of National Health Policy
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and rules governing the health sector
  • Working knowledge of research methodology and programme evaluation techniques
  • Knowledge of local cultural norms and how they impact on health and safety
  • Knowledge of requirements of international funding agencies
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in public health, nationally and internationally
  • Knowledge of epidemiological principles and cancer surveillance methods.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing health research and practice.
  • Familiarity with international public health trends and donor reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant statistical/data management software (e.g., SPSS, EpiInfo, Excel)

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Sc. in Behaviour Sciences, Health Related Science or equivalent
  • Minimum of Three to Four (3-4) years’ work experience in the health field
