The Senior Archivist is responsible for the safeguard and long term preservation of the archive’s special manuscript collections and cultural heritage through the implementation of modernized archival techniques.

 


Job Purpose

Under the general direction of the Senior Director User Services and Conservation, the Senior Archivist is responsible for the safeguard and long term preservation of the archive’s special manuscript collections and cultural heritage through the implementation of modernized archival techniques, leadership and best practices while ensuring legal and ethical compliance.

  • Historical documents and archival materials collected, authenticated and appraised.
  • Archives for the collection were created and maintained for easy retrieval of information.
  • Historically significant, origin, and value of archival materials researched and recorded.

  • New materials and work towards their acquisition and display discovered and located.

Qualification and Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized University in History, especially West Indian History the Humanities or Library Studies with post graduate training in Archives Administration
  • Three (3) years related working experience.
  • Experience working with archival materials in non-traditional formats and of cultural significance.

 

Special conditions associated with the job

  • Exposure to dust and mouldy environment
  • Required to wear the necessary PPE provided
  • Exposure to colder than normal temperature in stock areas.
  • Required to lift, bend and walk to arrange library material/resources.
  • Required to work outside of normal working hours to include weekends and Public Holidays.
