The incumbent executes and maintains transmission infrastructure, troubleshoots complex issues, and collaborates with teams to optimize and support the Government of Jamaica’s transmission network and strategic goals.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Transmission Engineer is a key member of the Transmission Engineering team and is responsible for executing network transmission infrastructure tasks to ensure the smooth operation and optimization of the Government of Jamaica’s (GoJ’s) transmission network. This role involves implementing, and maintaining transmission systems, as well as troubleshooting and resolving complex transmission-related issues. The Senior Transmission Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support the organization’s overall network objectives and strategic goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements transmission infrastructure projects.
  • Configures and maintains fibre optic and wireless transmission systems.
  • Conducts site surveys to assess transmission network requirements.
  • Develops detailed network diagrams and specifications.
  • Performs capacity planning for transmission systems.
  • Evaluates network performance metrics and optimize transmission protocols.
  • Analyses and mitigates transmission network vulnerabilities.
  • Performs risk assessments for transmission network upgrades.
  • Reviews and optimizes transmission network configurations.
  • Plans and executes network resilience strategies for transmission systems.
  • Monitors industry trends in transmission technology advancements.
  • Conducts cost-benefit analysis for transmission infrastructure projects.
  • Develops disaster recovery plans for critical transmission links.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years related work experience.
  • Professional Certification in transmission engineering.
  • Certified Fibre Optic Certification Year 1 & 2 (CFOT).
  • Experienced in evaluating and selecting transmission equipment and vendors.
  • Experienced in utilizing network simulation tools to model and optimize transmission network performance.
  • Experienced in documenting transmission network designs, configurations and operational procedures.
