The incumbent will assist in developing national, regional and international standards for GNBS and regional standards


The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), operating under the Ministry of Business is a semi- autonomous governmental organization responsible for standards and quality in Guyana. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced and motivated individual who is inspired by our mission and wants to play a key role in standards and quality in Guyana. 



  • Provide technical services to Technical Committees, Sub- Committees and Working Groups established by the GNBS and the Caricom Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) 
  • Prepare Draft Guyana Standards in accordance with established procedures of the GNBS 
  • Schedule technical meetings, establishment of the agenda and arranging for its distribution, as well as distribution of all documents pertaining to the agenda 
  • Represent the GNBS at meetings, workshops and conferences 
  • Prepare comments relative to technical committee meetings and public consultations 
  • Prepare articles for newsletters established by the GNBS. 
  • Assist in the implementation of the GNBS Quality Management System. 
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Head, Standardization Department. 
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the Head, Standardisation Department or any duly authorized person. 



  • Degree in Natural Science, Engineering or any related science from a recognized institution plus two (2) years working experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office. 



  • Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include, travel allowance, telephone allowance, uniforms, private pension plan and health insurance, training and capacity development. 90 days probationary period applies to all positions except management positions.


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF THE JOB (disagreeable work environment etc.) 

  • May be required to work during the lunch interval and on weekends to support the Oil and Gas industry 
  • Must be prepared to travel outside of Georgetown to other branches of GNBS 
  • May be required to appear on mass media on behalf of GNBS 
  • Numerous high priority and business critical deadlines 
  • Full-time position Monday to Friday with hours of work 08:00hrs to 17:00hrs 
  • Required to work beyond normal working hours/days to meet deadlines and deliverables 
  • Occasional local and overseas travel may be required
