Treasury Dealer

This position reports directly to the Vice President, Head of Treasury and will assist with managing the Cayman Islands Repo, Money Market & Foreign Exchange books. The incumbent has the opportunity to develop knowledge further in an active trading environment, be part of a team that delivers exceptional client service, works to tight deadlines and is continually looking to improve working practises and procedures.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Bank’s Repo, Money Market and Foreign Exchange books
  • placing and taking funds via the Repo & Money Markets and ensuring the appropriate level of funds at the Bank’s correspondent accounts
  • acting to enhance returns on the Bank’s funds and maintain liquidity within internal and regulatory requirements
  • assisting with reporting requirements for the desk and maintenance and control of the Bank’s client deposit interest rate structure
  • preparing and publishing deposit rate sheets to client facing teams and providing ad-hoc client deposit rates
  • providing clients of the Bank with quotations of spot and forward foreign exchange rates, monitoring exposure and manage risk in the interbank market
  • assisting the Treasury and client facing teams in promoting the Bank’s services to develop new and existing counterparty and client relationships
  • assisting with reviewing and updating Treasury procedure manuals.


About the team

The Treasury department is responsible for overseeing Butterfield’s financial resources. Its responsibilities include balancing and managing the daily cash flow and liquidity of funds within the Bank. The department also handles the Bank’s investments in securities, foreign exchange, asset/liability management and cash instruments.


Your qualifications and skills include:

  • bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance or related discipline advantageous
  • minimum of three years of in-depth knowledge and experience of money market and foreign exchange trading in the wholesale financial markets
  • previous financial experience working in a front office treasury environment within a regulated organisation
  • strong numerical and analytical skills
  • high attention to detail and risk awareness
  • ability to make fast, sound decisions under market pressure
  • proficient in MS Word, Excel and familiarity with treasury trading systems
  • high degree of self-motivation, efficient time management and excellent organisational and communications skills
  • stable and calm temperament to work accurately and effectively under the pressures arising from working in active markets with high value tickets to tight deadlines.
