Reporting to the SVP, the VP leads the relationship team to drive business growth through strategic client acquisition, cross-selling, and special projects, while overseeing financial performance, risk management, and people development.

 

Vice President, Business Development (Corporate Banking)

The Vice President, Business Development reports to the Senior Vice President, Head of Corporate Banking and is required to provide leadership for the team from a business development perspective which includes leading of Relationship Team Leaders, Relationship Managers, Associate Relationship Managers and Client Service Officers.  As a priority the candidate will be responsible for the development of opportunities within the existing client base, strategically target new opportunites to the Bank as well as cross-selling the full range of the banks' products. The successful candidate shall be instrumental in the development and execution of Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects, along with the financial performance of the department, driven by strong contributions to business development. The role also requires contributions to People Development and Risk Management.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects
    • develop and support a regular cadence of client meetings at their place of business with the relationship management team, completing a full banking review meeting annually with each portfolio managed client. To be supported through the development and maintenance of up-to-date client plans and quarterly portfolio reviews.
    • formulate & lead sector strategies.
    • support strategies lead by others from the departmental leadership group.
  • Financial
    • ensure Corporate Banking Financial Goals are achieved/exceeded.
    • maximize the profitability of each client relationship by executing actions from client plans, identifying opportunities and cross-selling.
    • represent the Bank in various business, social and community settings with a view to developing new relationships.
    • prepare for and lead pitches to existing and prospective customers and industry sector organisations
    • develop, review and critique complex proposals and facilities prior to submission to the Bank’s Credit, Reputational Risk or other Committees to ensure that only high-quality proposals are presented and are in line with current policies, standards and risk appetite.
    • develop strategically identified new markets/sectors.
  • Risk
    • timely onboarding of new clients, periodic KYC/CDD reviews and alerts processing
    • manage operational losses within agreed risk tolerances.
    • ensure timely completion of credit reviews. Manage Non-accrual Loans within agreed risk tolerances.
  • People
    • ensure respectful, professional and constructive communication with colleagues.
    • regular one to one engagement with Relationship Team leaders and team members.
    • mentor and develop Corporate Banking team members.
    • ensure an in-depth knowledge of the banking industry and Butterfield products and services. 


About the team

Butterfield’s Corporate Banking team provides dedicated services to corporate clients across a diverse range of sectors, form local businesses to multi-national corporations and financial institutions through tailored financial services and advice including accounts, investments and corporate financing.


Your qualifications and skills include:

  • business development and origination with proven track record across both sides of the balance sheet and product suite.
  • leadership along with proven ability to lead strategy & teams.
  • relevant Bachelor’s degree and 10 years relevant experience. A further professional qualification or MBA desirable.
  • detailed understanding of the business and credit requirements of global financial service industry coupled with a sound working knowledge of the related accounting and global regulatory environments.
  • superior analytical and risk management skills including financial analysis and credit structuring/restructuring.
  • ability to write and manage complex credit facilities including syndicated lines.
  • experience of trade finance, documentary and standby letters of credit (UCP500 and ISP98) regulations.
  • excellent understanding of banking products and services, the Corporate Banking function, lending and risk assessment, treasury services.
  • strong hands-on understanding of documentation.
  • strong interpersonal, negotitation and sales skills.
