Intelligent Transportation System Communication Technician

Qualification and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Networking, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution
• At least 6 years’ experience in WAN/LAN design, configuration, and maintenance
• Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, Wireless, QoS, VoIP, and other internet/intranet technologies
• Ability to configure, deploy, and troubleshoot:
• Traffic variable message signs
• Traffic signal communication boards
• Traffic CCTV cameras and equipment
• Backup power systems for traffic signals

Skills Requirements/Key Competencies:

• Ability to learn new technologies quickly
• Knowledge of Structured Cabling System design and implementation
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Strong customer service orientation

Reporting Relationship:

• Reports to: Operations Engineer

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

• Install and configure network equipment (routers, switches, servers, firewalls)
• Install, configure, and support wireless network equipment (access points, controllers)
• Configure firewalls, routers, and switches for efficiency and security
• Monitor and troubleshoot network performance
• Conduct system resource utilization monitoring, trending, and capacity planning
• Configure and deploy Intelligent Transportation System equipment
