The Professional Services Consultant provides academic, career, and personal counseling to students, offers basic mental health support and referrals, and develops wellness programs to support the campus community.

 

Position Overview

The Professional Services Consultant will provide confidential and private educational, and personal counselling to students, employees and Faculty. The Consultant will be expected to address conflicts and develop a more supportive environment by offering guidance and implementing programmes. The role combines the problem-solving approach of a consultant with the expertise of a counsellor. This is a Part-time position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with students to discuss grades, help them plan their academic schedules and assist them in exploring career paths that align with their skills and interests.
  • Guide students through processes including (standardised testing, applying for scholarships and financial aid and preparing for interviews after graduation).
  • Provide support for personal and social issues, such as bullying, low self-esteem and relationship issues.
  • Offer basic mental health guidance to students, employees and Faculty
  • and refer students, employees and Faculty to external professionals when necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between students and faculty to address student concerns and behavioural issues.
  • Develop, implement and facilitate mental health and conflict resolution workshops.
  • Recommend and develop mental health and emotional support programmes to improve the well-being of students, employees and Faculty.
  • Maintain confidential records of students’ and employees’ progress, interactions and counselling sessions.
  • Any other reasonable duties requested by the Associate Vice President of Grand Bahama and the Family Islands or Designee.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or Education from an accredited college or university, with at least three (3) years experience in a similar role. A Master’s Degree in Counseling or School Psychology or equivalent is preferred.
