The primary role of the Emergency Physician is to clinically evaluate and manage all patients who present to the Emergency Department (ED) for Care, obtaining specialist consultation and assistance as required.

 

Clinical responsibilities include:

  • Provides clinical leadership in the Resuscitation of seriously ill or injured patients presenting to the ED. This includes but is not exclusive to advanced airway management such as intubation, initiation and management of non-invasive ventilation, life-saving minor surgical interventions (such as cricothroidotomy, chest intubations) and all other resuscitation efforts
  • Provides “frontline” and quality clinical care for all patients attending the ED and provides support for nurses and non-attending physicians and other clinicians caring for patients presenting to the ED as required
  • Ensures safe discharge of all patients and especially the vulnerable patients
  • Uses evidence based medicine to support the introduction or withdrawal of Medical therapies, medications, interventions or practices for patients attending the ED
  • Responds to Cardiac Arrest at Diagnostic Imaging and Gosling Ward (Children’s ward

 

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum Education Board Certified in Emergency Medicine
  • Minimum Work Experience - Two (2) years post Board Certification. Successful completion of a management course is desirable. Additional training in Pre-hospital, Paediatric or Critical Care is desirable. Hyperbaric and Wound Care experience are an asset
  • Current BLS, ALS/ACLS, APLS/ PALS and ATLS certification
  • Required Registration - Current registration with Medical Council in relevant jurisdiction 
  • Eligible to register with Bermuda Medical Council
