The incumbent supports, maintains, and trains users on land surveying equipment, assists with purchases and repairs, administers usage policies, and aids in teaching, research, and fieldwork activities.

 

Duties of the post include:

  • Providing technical support regarding the use of standard surveying equipment including GNSS, UAV, total stations, levels, and other standard and peripheral equipment typically used in land surveying.
  • Maintaining, calibrating, and storing land surveying equipment including GNSS, UAV, total stations, levels, and other standard and peripheral equipment typically used in land surveying.
  • Facilitating and assisting both staff and students with the use of surveying equipment in teaching and research.
  • Advising and assisting staff and students in the purchase of new land surveying equipment.
  • Reporting warranty breakdowns to suppliers and vendors and ensuring the timely completion of repairs.
  • Requesting quotations for equipment parts and accessories from vendors and assisting with the purchasing of these as required.
  • Administering policies and standards governing the Department’s use of surveying equipment and surveying network infrastructure on Campus and off.
  • Responding to users’ queries and providing information, advice and technical support.
  • Providing training to staff and students in the use of land surveying equipment and peripherals.
  • Assisting in off-campus field works as needed, including the installation and maintenance of GNSS, UAVs, and other data acquisition devices.
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned by the Chief Engineering Technician and/or Head, Department of Geomatics Engineering and Land Management.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applicants should have knowledge and familiarity with The University’s mission, structure, policies and procedures. Applicants must possess specialised knowledge and technical training in land surveying data acquisition techniques and equipment. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours when required and must have an understanding of the OSH Act. Candidates should possess a valid Trinidad and Tobago Driver’s Permit, with more than two (2) years of driving experience.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • A Technician’s Diploma or Associate Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering or any other equivalent or higher standard of education from a registered/accredited institution. Working knowledge of land surveying data management and computation software would be considered an asset.

 

EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience.
