The incumbent teaches dental and medical students, develops postgraduate programs, supervises research, leads curriculum development, conducts research, and provides clinical patient care in a hospital setting.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum: 

  • A Masters’ degree in, Oral Surgery or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery 

with 

  • A DDS, a DMD or a BDD degree or equivalent 

or 

  • Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons 

or 

  • Equivalent qualifications from a recognised university or tertiary level institution 

and 

  • Specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which should be recognised by the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago  

Candidates should also possess: 

  • An MBBS or MD Degree 

and 

  • At least five (5) years training programme culminating in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialist recognition
  • Teaching experience in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Evidence of technical expertise in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • A good record of research and publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals 
  • Candidate with prior experience in a hospital environment, with acute Maxillofacial experience, eg. Trauma/Acute Infection, will have an advantage.

The following would be considered assets: 

  • Certificate or Fellowship in Medical or Dental Education
  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Evidence of prior success in attracting external research and development funding
  • Candidate should be registered or be eligible to be registered with both the Dental Council of Trinidad and Tobago and the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Didactic and Clinical teaching to pre-clinical and clinical undergraduate students, postgraduate students and Dental Interns
  • Developing postgraduate programmes in Oral Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Working closely with staff in the Faculty of Medical Sciences in providing quality leadership in teaching and curriculum development across DM (Doctor of Medicine) programmes in Ear, Nose, and Throat and Plastic Surgery
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research
  • Participating in clinically oriented problem-based learning activities
  • Supporting University assessment and examination activities
  • Conducting impactful research and publications
  • Managing patients in a hospital and outpatient setting
