The incumbent facilitates medical education in pharmacology and pathology by delivering lectures, and supervising student research while contributing to curriculum accreditation, interdisciplinary teaching, and scholarly activities.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, from a recognised university: 

  • A PhD or equivalent Doctoral Degree, which should be in Pathology, Immunology, Pharmacology, or a closely related discipline 

OR 

  • An MBBS/MD or equivalent medical qualification, with postgraduate training in Pathology or Laboratory Medicine

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate students
  • Evidence of prior participation in academic conferences, workshops, or symposia
  • Integration of pathology principles across physiological systems 

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate students
  • Strong foundation in Anatomic Pathology, Haematology, Immunology, Pharmacology and Laboratory Medicine  

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Certificate in medical ethics or communication skills for doctors
  • Fellowship or membership in a recognized professional body (eg Royal College of Pathologists, American Society for Clinical Pathology, International Society of Haematology)
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in Medical or Health Sciences Education
  • At least three (3) years’ teaching experience in Medical or Health Sciences Education
  • Experience in curriculum design, integration and assessment (e, OSCE, MCQ, case-based learning)
  • Evidence of scholarly output in peer-reviewed journals relevant to Pathology and related fields
  • Evidence of published research in Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, Cytopathology, Haematology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Pathologic Basis of Therapeutics or Epidemiology of the Pathologic Basis of Disease
  • Experience with simulation-based education or OSCE station design
  • Prior involvement in international collaborations or cross-border medical education initiatives
  • Haematology and Immunology (cells, organs, functions, laboratory investigations)
  • Epidemiology and Public Health Applications of Pathology
  • Pharmacology fundamentals (pharmacokinetics, receptors, autonomic nervous system)
  • Diagnostic laboratory methods and their clinical applications 

Candidates should be registered or be eligible to be registered with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions in Pharmacology, Endocrine and Reproductive Sciences
  • Contributing to teaching the Pathological Basis of Disease across all physiological systems in Years 1 and 2
  • Designing and implementing assessments aligned with course learning outcomes (eg OSCE, written exams, practical tests)
  • Supervising student projects and providing academic advising
  • Contributing to curriculum development and accreditation processes (CAAM-HP standards)
  • Engaging in scholarly activity, including research and publication
  • Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to ensure integrated teaching
  • Promoting professional values, ethics, and communication skills in medical education
