The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, curriculum development, student supervision, and academic research in the field of Japanese Studies.

 

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in Japanese language, culture, and/or society.
  • Contribute to curriculum design and development of the Japanese Studies programme.
  • Undertake research leading to publications in reputable academic journals.
  • Participate in departmental activities, meetings, and administrative duties.
  • Engage in outreach, collaboration and interdisciplinary initiatives where appropriate.

 

Essential Qualifications And Experience:

  • A PhD in Japanese Studies with a focus on Japanese contemporary culture.
  • Possess native or near native competence in Japanese and excellent command of English.
  • Possess solid knowledge of contemporary Japanese culture, including manga and its broader cultural significance.
  • Demonstrate experience in teaching Japanese language and/or culture at the University level.
  • Demonstrated evidence of research activity and potential for publication in reputable academic journals.
  • Experience with curriculum development and innovative teaching methods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic environment.

 

Candidates who possess the following will be at a distinct advantage:

  • Experience in Japanese Translation.
  • Experience supervising MPhil/PhD students.
  • Evidence of prior grant acquisition.
  • Administrative experience within an academic institution.
  • Certificate in University Teaching.
  • Familiarity with digital tools or blended learning approaches in language and cultural instruction.
  • Evidence of contribution to the Public Service OR field of study.
