RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads and directs the daily work activities of the Biomedical Technicians by ensuring that all biomedical equipment and systems are operating efficiently, and downtime is minimal
- Ensures that policies and procedures established by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the organization are adopted and enforced
- Develops and/or implements/maintains preventative maintenance procedures and manuals for biomedical equipment
- Ensures that biomedical equipment and systems are assembled and installed in keeping with guided policies/ procedures
- Directs and oversees scheduled maintenance servicing and repair to biomedical equipment such as dental chairs, suction machines, blood pressure machines, autoclaves, and dialysis systems
- Checks new bio-medical/electronic equipment after it is received and before it is put into operation as requested
- Extracts biomechanical equipment maintenance history (costs, maintenance labour hours, spare parts, usage, etc.) for review and analysis of the overall maintenance programme; and to make informed decisions
- Installs and commissions/decommissions biomedical equipment as directed by the Maintenance Manager
- Tests and calibrates components using a variety of manuals, troubleshooting techniques, and code requirements
- Diagnoses equipment malfunctions with accuracy and precision by testing the functionality of equipment considering accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements
- Ensures biomedical equipment and internal circuitry meet standard requirements
- Informs biomedical equipment users and the Manager, Health Facilities, Operations and Maintenance of status updates and maintenance needs of biomedical equipment and systems
- Liaises with clinical staff to identify and remedy maintenance issues and system failures Identifies need for replacement supplies; selects and submits cost-effective sources in accordance with established guidelines and policies
- Maintains documentation of new equipment, inspection, and equipment repair and failures
- Develops/compiles data and creates specifications for biomedical equipment/devices to facilitate procurement
- Provides technical guidance to medical staff regarding the use of biomedical equipment and systems
- Recommends the replacement of biomedical equipment that has become unsafe and too costly to maintain
- Provides technical guidance and supervision to the Biomedical Technicians Participates in the development of the Operational Plan and budget for the Unit
SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB:
- May be required to work beyond normal working hours, weekends and public holidays from time to time
- May be exposed to noise, dust, grease, wastewater, fumes, noxious odours, radiation, infectious disease and gases, and mechanical and electrical hazards
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, stoop, walk or crawl as necessary to supervise and perform maintenance and repairs
- Possess manual dexterity and finger coordination to grasp, hold, turn or squeeze objects, tools and equipment
- Possess a sense of vision and hearing at a necessary level to diagnose problems, use tools, and implement preventative or corrective solutions
- Work may be performed in confined areas such as those between ceilings and roofs; may include exposure to electrical shock and airborne particles
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar capacity
- Any equivalent combination of qualification and experience

- Working knowledge of health and safety policies and guidelines for health facilities
- Excellent knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment
- Expertise knowledge in Maintenance Management
- Working knowledge of any maintenance management software applications
