The Chief Contact Investigator (Regional) will provide technical support to facilitate the implementation, monitoring and management of Contact Investigation services/programmes within the Region.

 

Qualification & Experience:

  • MSc. in Registered Nursing/Environmental Health/Medical Technology 
  • Successful completion of a one-year course in Contact Investigation 

Plus 

  • Seven (7) years’ experience, three (3) of which should be at a Senior Level 

 

Key Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

Administrative/Technical 

  • Provides support with the preparation of the Unit’s budget and operational plans;
  • Leads the development, coordination and implementation of HIV and STI programmes and initiatives for the Region. 
  • Assists in planning, organizing and implementation of the Regional Communicable Disease Programme in the parishes and regions. 
  • In consultation with the MO (H) and Senior Contact Investigators, establish additional STI Clinics and outreach/ intervention projects at strategic health facilities and ensure their satisfactory operation.
  • Ensures that contacts of communicable diseases are promptly treated and/or counselled, in a confidential manner, so as to prevent disease transmission. 
  • Provide technical assistance to Regional Health Promotion and Education Coordinators Adherence Counsellors, Treatment Care & Support Officers and laboratory staff in aspects of their work relating to STI/HIV. 
  • Participates in surveillance of communicable diseases (HIV and other STIs). 
  • Reviews and quality checks interviews and field records of Contact Investigators, submitted by Senior Contact Investigators. 
  • Ensures accuracy and prompt submission of completed forms and reports to the Regional Medical Epidemiologist, RTD and Ministry of Health. 
  • Makes recommendations to the MOs (H) in relation to HIV/STIs. 
  • Identifies shortcomings in the Contact Investigation services and takes or recommends corrective actions 
  • Establishes and ensures the maintenance of regional and parish Communicable diseases (eg. STI/HIV) databases 
  • Compiles and analyses Regional STI/HIV/AIDS data, and presents reports at Regional/parish training workshops and conferences. 
  • Assists in program evaluation at the regional level. 
  • Monitors staff performance through periodical, direct observation facility-based assessment.
  • Assists with providing coverage when CIs are on leave where necessary. 
  • Liaises with other health and community groups in planning and conducting educational programs and targeted interventions. 
  • Assists with compiling the region’s /parish’s needs for STI/HIV equipment, stationery and supplies.
  • Assist Senior CIs to organize the procurement of condoms, educational literature and other STI/HIV materials. 
  • Assists with organizing regional Contact Investigation Programme meetings. 
  • Monitors the quality of Provider Initiated Testing and Counselling (PITC) for HIV performed by CIs and other healthcare workers. 
  • Fosters and maintains professional relationships with physicians and other health and welfare agencies in the community (private and public). 
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Regional Communicable Disease Program Coordinator.
