The incumbent works constantly and consistently toward the achievement of the department’s goals of providing high quality food service to patients, with the emphasis on communications related to patient tray service.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Communicates effectively with CDS staff, Food Service staff, Nursing staff, and Hospital Volunteers in the day-to-day performance of job duties
  • Maintains a computerized diet office through the proper handling and daily maintenance of the computer equipment and supplies
  • Communicates with supervisors, trayline staff and cooking staff regarding patient needs based on computer-generated reports, check report for any errors and makes the necessary corrections
  • Possesses knowledge of the principles of normal nutrition and standard therapeutic diets as found in the Manual of Clinical Dietetics
  • Reviews therapeutic diet menus to ensure that they are completed according to Dietary guidelines as set out by the Diet Order and Clinical Dietitians.
  • Adheres to patterns set out by the Clinical Dietitians. Ensures that menus are ready for scanning.
  • Checks min/max report for any problem menus.
  • Adjusts diet to patients’ food preferences when possible.
  • Utilizes good judgment in timely completion of the above

 

Qualifications & Registration required:

  • A two-year dietetic technician or food supervisor certificate from a recognized University or Community College. Course must be approved by the American, Canadian, or British Dietetic Association
  • One year’s experience in a hospital dietetic department
  • Dietetic Technician, Registered Licensure/Certification Qualifications
