The incumbent leads communications and marketing strategy, manages the BNT brand, advises leadership on media, builds media relations, oversees campaigns, publications, and supervises communications staff to advance organizational goals.

 

Job Purpose

The Bahamas National Trust is seeking a dynamic Communications and Marketing Director to lead and develop and an integrated communications and marketing department that brings visibility to the national parks, advances its conservation programs and strengthens stakeholder engagement. In addition to enhancing the organization’s reputation as the leader in conservation and environmental stewardship in The Bahamas.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and marketing plan aligned with BNT’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Manage and protect the BNT brand, ensuring consistency of messaging, visuals, and tone across print, digital and social channels.
  • Advise the Executive Director and senior leadership on media positioning, crisis communication, and key message development.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and international media to secure positive coverage.
  • Coordinate media interviews, press conferences and public appearances for leadership.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar for digital and print publications, including newsletters, blogs, videos, and social campaigns.
  • Lead the development of marketing campaigns to promote BNT programs, membership drives, fundraising events, and educational outreach.
  • Supervise, mentor and manage communications and marketing staff, interns, and contractors/consultants.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a closely related field (Advanced Degree preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible communication, marketing, or public relations experience, ideally within a non-profit or environmental organization.
  • Writing & Editing: Exceptional copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills, with a proven ability to adapt tone and messaging for diverse audiences. public speaking skills, with experience crafting messages for diverse audiences.
  • Media Relations: Demonstrated success in cultivating press relationships, securing coverage, and serving as a spokesperson. experience with media relations, social media management, and digital marketing.
  • Digital & social media: Hands-on experience managing websites (CMS), social media channels, email marketing platforms and analytical tools.
  • Campaign Management: Track record of developing, executing and measuring multichannel marketing and communications campaigns.
  • Leadership: Strong people-management skills, coaching staff or contractors, delegating effectively and fostering a collaborative team culture.
  • Software & Design Tools: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent.
  • Graphic & Multimedia Production: Basic skills in video editing, photography direction or motion-graphics is a plus.
