Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post Driver in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Human Resource Management & Administration (Civilian) Section.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The incumbent is responsible to provide safe and timely services in transporting staff/clients and goods. The incumbent is responsible for conducting official transactions on behalf of the Unit/Section assigned to include the delivery of mails/packages etc. and ensuring the maintenance and safety of the vehicle whilst in custody. 

 

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to)

  • Drives the organization’s vehicles in compliance with internal rules and road traffic regulations, 
  • Assists in the delivery and collection of mail to and from public and private offices;
  • Delivers correspondences to government authorities and provide support in the processing of various documents; 
  • Picks-up, handle and deliver time-sensitive documents and packages in a safe and punctual manner considering traffic patterns, alternative routes if necessary, traffic regulations and driving conditions. 
  • Checks and add fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluid and distilled fluid to batteries prior to departure; 
  • Determines when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs and keeps track of general maintenance schedules; 
  • Ensures that the vehicles are cleaned and suitable to transport participants and staff;
  • Monitors and secures vehicles, accessories, equipment and tools. 
  • Maintains logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status;
  • Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to Supervisor; 
  • Reports orally and in writing all accidents to the Police Station and Supervisor;
  • Secures assigned advance fuel cards and submits receipts to the relevant personnel after use; 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Performs other related functions assigned. 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Secondary level education 
  • Two (2) years related work experience 
  • Possess a valid Open Driver’s Licence or General Driver’s Licence 
  • Must be successful in driving test administered by the National Works Agency upon position being provisionally offered; 
  • Completed course in defensive driving is an asset

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF THE JOB (disagreeable work environment etc.)

  • Typical working environment, no adverse working conditions 
  • Maybe required to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and Public Holidays 
  • May encounter greases 
  • Maybe required to travel island-wide 
  • Location some distance from the main entrance; 
  • May be subjected to search based on JDF’s rule
