The incumbent provides urgent medical care in the Emergency Department, stabilizes critically ill patients, consults specialists, maintains accurate documentation, and responds to hospital-wide emergencies.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assessing and providing appropriate medical care to patients who present to the Emergency Department for treatment.
  • Responsible for Intervening as necessary to stabilize critically ill patients.
  • Responsible for consulting specialists as required.
  • Responsible for accurately documenting all patient care provided and for completing Police Reports or other legal documents referencing patient care as required.
  • Responsible for responding to Cardiac Arrests at KEMH, Agape House, and the Beresford Swan Dialysis Unit.
  • Responsible for reporting to the Emergency Department to work whenever required during a natural disaster or Mass Casualty Management event.
  • May work in the Hyperbaric and Wound Care Unit to provide patient care if appropriately trained and credentialed

 

Qualifications &/ Registration required:

  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (US, Canada, Australia) or Consultant with Specialist Registrar Training in Accident and Emergency Medicine (UK), or equivalent qualification with at least 3 years experience in Emergency Medicine. BLS, ACLS, APLS or PALS and ATLS certification.
