Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director, Planning and Evaluation, the incumbent participates in the planning activities designed to support the development and implementation of Forest Management Plans.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Prepare draft Forest Management Plans for forest estates. This will be based on these assessments:
    • review of relevant documents, forest management plans (existing if required), spatial data, and land use data,
    • assessment of existing and emerging threats to PAs
    • conduct stakeholders consultations
    • assess, collate, and analyze information related to any other aspect of baseline,
    • develop the plan strategy and detailed plan for supporting the implementation of an integrated approach to SFM 
  • Prepares and delivers presentations relating to the development of the Forest Management Plans. 
  • Prepare annual implementation plan for active Forest Management Plans. 
  • In collaboration with Rural Sociologists, monitors stakeholder engagement in the planning and implementation process of FMPs. 
  • Represents the Agency at local, regional, and international meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, Ministries and committees, and other functions as required. 
  • Collaborates with Government agencies (PIOJ, NRCA, JNHT, IOJ, WRA Tourism and Culture, TPDCo) and Private and community-based organizations such as Tree Growers Association JCDT, LFMCs, etc. as required and/or necessary. 
  • Researches, identifies, and utilizes new technology to improve management plans. 
  • In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, develop, and identify appropriate Results Framework indicators and targets related to SFM; collect baseline data for the relevant indicators; choose the means of measurement; and define targets, key risks, and assumptions linked to these indicators.
  • Reviews and updates the FMP dashboard annually 
  • Provides RBM-related support in the preparation of core program planning. 
  • Ensures that the Forest Management Plans have adequate technical and supportive data & information. 
  • Plans, accesses, and project costs according to predetermined financial and environmental specifications. 
  • Identifies gaps and assesses opportunities for improving the SFM and forest in FMU/FMA 
  • Assists in the development of sustainable development plans and proposes changes and improvement initiatives.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A First Degree in Environmental Planning, Forest or Natural Resource Management / Agriculture or a related area 
  • Knowledge of project, planning, and research techniques, results-based management/M&E At least two (2) years’ experience 

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

  • Expected to travel island-wide 
  • Expected to work on weekends, public holidays, and nights 
  • Expected to work outdoors under climatic and physically challenging conditions 

 

 

AUTHORITY

  • To recommend changes to the methodology used in collecting and disseminating data
  • To recommend research projects to be undertaken
