Course description:
Gross and Developmental Anatomy focuses on the gross structure of organs and their function, and through clinical correlations, relates each to clinical medicine. An Anatomical Learning Resource Center has been established to utilize computer-based instruction, anatomical models, radiographic materials as well as supervised laboratory sessions dissecting various parts of the human body.
Students study the structure and function of all organs with some interaction with cellular structure. This course incorporates an understanding of how embryological processes give rise to the mature body form. When this course is complete, each student will have extensive knowledge of the gross anatomy and development of the entire human body as it relates clinically to the practice of medicine.
Salary and Benefits:
The position is full time and the salary is commensurate with teaching experience and degree. The faculty member is provided with an excellent health care plan which covers both US and St. Kitts health care. Since there are three fifteen week semesters the faculty member has seven weeks’ vacation a year which comes as the last two weeks in May, August, and three weeks in December. Faculty are also provided an annual one week leave with expenses to attend a pre-approved professional convention. UMHS offers a traditional four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The university operates year round and offers three semesters per calendar year which start in January, May, and September. The University is accredited by ACCM which has adopted the LCME standards of accreditation. ACCM is recognized and approved by the Department of Education through NCFMEA. Students complete four semesters of basic science then transition to our fifth semester in Maine for ICM 2 and a 15 week USMLE review program. After passing Step 1 students transition into the Clinical Program which is completed at over 20 affiliated teaching hospitals in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. To graduate, students must successfully complete the UMHS medical program and pass USMLE Step1 and 2. Our graduates have obtained residencies throughout the United States and Canada.
