The incumbent provides proactive security services by guarding and monitoring premises, inspecting for suspicious activities, controlling access, maintaining logs, assisting visitors, and guiding staff/customers during emergencies.

 

OVERVIEW

The incumbent is responsible to provide general security services by protecting the Jamaica Defence Force’s property and staff at any of the following locations: 

  • Logistics Company 
  • Engineer Regiment Unit 
  • Military Workshop 
  • Any other designated location 

 

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to) 

Provides proactive security services in ensuring the efficient and effective coordination of activities to protect the Jamaica Defence Force’s properties by 

  • Guarding and securing location by monitoring all entrances and fences and patrolling and monitoring assigned areas; 
  • Routinely inspecting the location for any suspicious activities. 
  • reporting suspicious activities by notifying supervisor or the military police of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention 
  • Inspecting location e.g checking all doors in and outside of buildings to be sure they are locked when vacant, locks doors found to be left unlocked 
  • Accurately logging in and out vehicles after lifting security barrier to allow entry and exit to and from the location 
  • Monitoring pedestrian and vehicular traffic 
  • Logs items entering the location in keeping within the policies and operations. 
  • Provide routine customer service functions by: 
    • Assisting with receiving and screening visitors to the location; 
    • Providing relevant information as deemed appropriate; 
    • Guiding staff/customers to safety in cases of emergency such as fire or earthquake 
    • Giving lost and found assistance where staff/customers may have misplaced items 

Technical/Professional Responsibilities 

  • Knowledge of public safety, security operations and procedures 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Performs all other related duties and functions as may be required from time to time.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Four (4) passes in GCE “O” Level, CXC or equivalent, including English Language and a numeric subject. 
  • Certificate in Industrial Security Operations NVQJ Level 1 
  • One (1) to two (2) years’ experience in a similar position. 

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

  • Typical working environment 
  • May be required to work beyond the normal working hours; 
  • Exposure on a daily basis to the elements of the sun, wind, dust and rain 
  • Required to sit/stand and patrol the location 
  • Required to work beyond normal hours from time to time 
  • Required to work on weekends and/or public holidays; 
  • Location some distance from the main entrance; 
  • May be subjected to search based on JDF’s rule
