Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dietitian, ensures that all utensils including plates, cups, mugs, trays, domes and under liners are thoroughly washed, rinsed and sanitized.

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Completion of secondary education 
  • HEART/NSTA Level 1 certificate in Commercial Food Preparation or equivalent qualification from an approved institution. 

 

Specific Knowledge/Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Knowledge of hygiene requirement for food preparation areas. 
  • Knowledge of food values and nutrition. 
  • Knowledge of care and use of food service equipment and kitchen utensils. 
  • Knowledge of supplies and methods used in food preparation and service. 

 

Key Responsibilities includes:

  • Collects diet order sheets from wards. 
  • Prepares fresh and whole fruit and juices to be used on food assembly line for breakfast, lunch and supper. 
  • Assists on food assembly line. 
  • Ensures that all meals, nourishment, and oral nutritional supplements are passed to the correct patients and tube feed are handed to the nurse. 
  • Ensures that all utensils and trays are collected and placed on trolleys and returned to the department to be counted and checked off by Assistant Dietitian. 
  • Ensures that all utensils and plates are thoroughly washed through the dishwashing cycle. 
  • Washes and cleans sinks, walls, food disposer and ware wash machine. 
  • Cleans food trolleys and stack them away. 
  • Assists in maintaining a sanitary environment in the department. 
  • Washes towels used to wipe trays, etc., in warm soapy water and bleach daily and air dry. 
  • Checks utensils daily and report any breakage or loss immediately. 
  • Performs related work as required. 

 

Special Conditions Associated with the Job:

  • Must possess a valid food handler permit. 
  • Normal hospital environment working in a Dietary Department. 
  • Required to work on a shift basis; maybe required to work overtime. 
  • Excessive standing and high temperature environment associated with regular duties.
