The National Works Agency, an Executive Agency of the Government of Jamaica is seeking suitably qualified individuals for the position of Laboratory Technician.

 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Information Technology, and preferably Physics, Chemistry, or Geography
  • Certificate in Soil/Material Testing or an equivalent qualification
  • Specialized training in laboratory testing techniques
  • At least one (1) year experience in soil and material testing

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS/KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong analytical and problem- solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Competence in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent human relations and teamwork skills
  • Creativity, innovation, and attention to detail
  • Flexibility and willingness to follow established procedures

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

  • Reports to: Soils and Materials Supervisor

 

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform sampling and testing of soil and construction materials using approved standard test methods
  • Record and submit test results to the supervisor upon completion of tests
  • Ensure testing equipment is calibrated (where required) and maintained in good working condition
  • Monitor and ensure proper identification and storage of samples throughout testing processes
  • Prepare graphs, sketches, and related test documentation
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper organization of the laboratory including storage and disposal of samples
  • Monitor and maintain adequate laboratory supplies
  • Adhere to safety and operational procedures
