The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine wishes to invite suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Lecturer in Child Health.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, from a recognized university:

  • Doctor of Medicine (DM) in Paediatrics 

OR 

  • Equivalent postgraduate qualification 

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • At least four (4) years clinical experience (after graduation) from MBBS or equivalent
  • Proficiency in clinical audit and research skills
  • Evidence of prior success in clinical decision making and communication skills 

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Degree or Certificate in Medical Education
  • A good record of research and publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals
  • At least two (2) years’ postgraduate teaching experience
  • At least two (2) years’ clinical experience at consultant level
  • Successful award of grant as a Principal Investigator (PI) or member of a team

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Subspecialty training in Paediatrics
  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Experience in providing subspecialty service in Paediatrics
  • Candidates must be registered or able to be registered as a specialist in Paediatrics with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago (MBTT).

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching of Child Health for the MBBS degree and the DM Paediatrics programmes via online and face to face modes
  • Providing work-based clinical supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Supervising postgraduate research projects
  • Managing a Clinical Service
  • Mentoring students

 

Personal Attributes

The Campus places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. 

 

Candidates should also:

  • Uphold the highest standards of professional practice and behaviour and medical ethics
  • Have strong interest in mentoring staff
  • Be able to use online pedagogical platforms such as Zoom
  • Be able to use teaching aids such as PowerPoint presentations
