The incumbent provides legal advice, ensures compliance, mitigates risks, represents the Authority, conducts research, develops policies, and engages in negotiations, training, and liaison with regulatory and industry stakeholders.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of the Director – Legal Services, the Legal Officer at the ICT Authority is responsible for providing legal counsel, drafting legal documents and representing the Authority in legal proceedings.  Additionally, the Legal Officer will drive organizational change through innovative legal strategies and contribute to the authority’s overall mission and goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides timely and accurate legal advice on a wide range of legal issues.
  • Reviews and interprets laws, regulations and contracts to ensure compliance.
  • Analyzes legal implications of proposed actions and provide recommendations,
  • Advises management on legal risks and potential liabilities.
  • Participates in negotiations with external parties to protect the Authority’s interest.
  • Represents the authority in legal proceedings, including court appearances and arbitration meetings.
  • Develops and delivers legal sensitization programmers for staff members.
  • Conducts legal research to support litigation strategies.
  • Develops policy recommendations to address regulatory challenges.
  • Conducts audits and investigations from regulatory authorities.
  • Conducts internal legal workshops and seminars on relevant legal topics.
  • Interfaces with government agencies, industry associations and legal partners.
  • Represents the Authority at legal conferences, seminars and industry events.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
  • Admission to the Bar and in good standing with relevant professional bodies.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing law.
