The Medical Officer participates in the on-call rota, assumes patient care responsibilities during staff shortages, attends scheduled clinical meetings, and coordinates with physicians for patient care and discharge planning.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Medical Officers will rotate for a 6 month period
  • Participates in the on call rota covering patients on the Hospitalist Service Acute Care Wing, Geriatric Ward and Paediatric Ward
  • When no specific Medical Officer is assigned to ER, the Nurse will page the Medical Officer to whose ward the patient is being admitted and that Medical Officer assumes responsibility for the patient's care
  • When there is shortage of Medical Officers; the remaining Medical Officers will be required to cover the schedules
  • Attends standard meetings as scheduled such as, Department of Medicine meetings, Clinical Meetings (lunchtime), daily Bullet Rounds with Assistant Unit Manager and attending Nurse Acute Care Wing, weekly multidisciplinary rounds and liaison with Attending Physicians (GP and Specialists) regarding care, referrals, discharge planning etc.

 

Qualifications & Registration required:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of Internal Medicine training/experience
  • An MD or suitable equivalent i.e. MBBS or MBChB from an accredited University
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS
  • Must hold a license to practice with the Bermuda Medical Council
