Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Technology Education, or related field
  • Valid teaching credential or certification
  • Experience teaching IB MYP Design preferred
  • Proficiency in digital design tools, fabrication, and emerging technologies
  • Strong project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for Design and STEAM, and a commitment to inspiring students to excel.
  • A passion for teaching and learning, a ready smile, and a sense of humour.

 

Design Teacher – Roles & Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver design courses that develop creativity and technical skill.
  • Guide students through the IB design cycle from inquiry to creation.
  • Encourage innovation, sustainability, and reflection in design work.
  • Support students in developing digital literacy and design thinking skills.
  • Showcase student projects and celebrate creativity across the school.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Instruction and Curriculum Delivery: Deliver engaging and rigorous design and STEAM lessons for MYP students that are aligned with the IB philosophy and emphasise inquiry, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skills.
  • Student Engagement and Support: Create a supportive and dynamic learning environment that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and student-led inquiry. Provide personalised support to help all students reach their potential.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Regularly assess student progress using formative and summative methods, providing targeted feedback to enhance student performance.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the Head of the Sciences and Design Department to develop and refine the science curriculum. Design innovative units that integrate interdisciplinary themes and connect scientific concepts to real-world contexts.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-organized classroom environment. Implement effective classroom management strategies that align with school policies and the IB learner profile.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with colleagues across subject areas and grade levels to foster interdisciplinary connections. Maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress and areas for improvement.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with the latest teaching practices, particularly in IB MYP Design instruction. Participate in school-based initiatives and contribute to the academic program's overall success.
