The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the Retreat Gardens by providing general landscaping and grounds maintenance, preparations and breakdown for events and other related support as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Landscape and maintenance including planting, transplanting, pruning trees and shrubs, watering, mulching, mowing, grooming, raking, hoeing, digging, chipping, weeding, fertilising and edging
  • Removal of invasive species
  • General cleanup including trash and compost removal and sanitization of restrooms as needed
  • Equipment maintenance including sharpening and maintaining tools; keeping tools, supplies, vehicles, and work areas clean and organized
  • Safely operate small equipment such as ATVs, leaf blowers, mowers, chainsaws, and weed eaters
  • Off-site collection of materials as needed.
  • Daily interaction with staff, volunteers, and visitors
  • Assist with set-up and breakdown of events.
  • Assist with tasks at other parks when necessary.

 

Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • A valid driver’s license
  • 1-2 years landscape maintenance experience preferred
  • Able to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 pounds
  • Able and willing to work outdoors when the weather is hot, humid, or cold
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Bahamian natural environment a plus
