The incumbent researches, writes, and produces television features, news, and public service announcements while handling all technical and on-air production elements.

 

Job Scope:

Under the supervision of the Senior Editor, the Writer/Producer/Presenter is responsible for producing television stories, features, programmes and public service announcements. In so doing, the incumbent aims to achieve synergy with other JIS departments in delivering the Government’s overall communications programme and to satisfy customer expectations. 

 

Core Functions:

  • Researches, writes, and produces television features, news, public service announcements and advertisements. 
  • Produces news and current affairs programmes.
  • Produces and distributes scripts for studio, television programmes and outside broadcast. 
  • Undertakes all elements of production such as programme planning, technical set-up and teardown, lighting, audio, directing, graphics and editing. 
  • Voices copy for news as well as on-camera link pieces for features and outside broadcasts. 
  • Assists in the planning and management of outside broadcasts.

 

Required Competencies:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer relations skills. 
  • Understanding and full working knowledge of planning, writing, presenting, and producing television news, features, documentaries, dramas, and public service announcements.
  • Strong ability to multitask, meet deadlines and work well in a team. 
  • High degree of initiative and creativity. 
  • Passion for news gathering and television production.

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, or equivalent qualifications  
  • At least four (4) years’ experience in writing, producing, presenting and reporting in the broadcasting industry.
