Under the direction of the Senior Research Officer-Entomology, the Zoologist is responsible for establishing the Zoology Department as a key resource centre for faunal research and education.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Collaborating with the (SRO) - Entomology in the monitoring of the curation of the zoological collections. 
  • Participating in island-wide collecting field trips. 
  • Preparing a variety of faunal specimens for storage and display. 
  • Preparing script for permanent and temporary museum exhibits 
  • Preparing articles for inclusion in the local press, Jamaica Journal, IOJ web-site other environmental publications and zoology based lesson plans. 
  • Planning and conducting research in his or her field of interest. 
  • Providing responses to queries relating to natural history 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • MSc. in Zoology 
  • In-depth knowledge of zoology and taxonomy with an interest in natural history and environmental matters as well as knowledge of museum preservation techniques. Knowledge of scientific research standards and protocols
