The Administrative Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and clerical support, coordinates activities for the department head, and serves as a liaison to ensure efficient and professional departmental operations.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

The position of Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support services in order to ensure effective and efficient administrative operations within the assigned department. The incumbent will coordinate activities on the behalf of the department head, act as liaison to faculty, staff, students and the general public across campus. This individual must be able to act independently, efficiently and with a high degree of discretion and professionalism.

 

Specialized Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effectively dealing with a broad range of individuals at various levels of the organization and the general public.
  • Strong computer skills i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, email, electronic scheduling etc. 
  • Excellent written communication skills for preparing correspondence, documents and reports, utilizing correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying needs, prioritizing tasks and effectively managing time to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct independent research, analysis and create reports. 
  • Ability to pay very close attention to details, prioritize tasks and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Must possess the ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
  • Ability to practice discretion and maintain confidentiality within the department.
  • Professional certifications are a plus.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 10 years relevant experience.

OR

  • Associates Degree or equivalent in Business Administration or related field with five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Experience in clerical, secretarial or administrative support positions.
