The Application Support Officer builds and maintains NHF software products and databases, performs quality assurance, designs system solutions, provides technical support, and implements analytical reporting tools.

 

ROLE AND FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

Under the general direction of the Applications Support Manager the incumbent has the responsibility to:

  • Build and maintain effective and robust software products 
  • Assist in the maintenance of the National Health Fund databases 
  • Respond to requests from NHF staff for effective application tools for carrying out their functions
  • Maintain a knowledge of installed systems 
  • Perform core software development activities including Quality Assurance (QA) 
  • Design high quality system solutions for NHF Users 
  • Participate in managing a technical help desk facility as required 
  • Assist in the installation and support of systems for the NHF 
  • Assist in the implementation of adequate controls to ensure appropriate audit checks can be implemented. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of analytical templates including but not restricted to report writing and web related analysis 

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Clear understanding of state of the art software development tools on Windows and other platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of the software development process, product life cycles, and QA tools. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science 
  • Minimum 2 years industry experience software engineering and QA 
  • Proven history of producing quality software products in a commercial setting 
  • Experience in a dynamic work environment with solid engineering practice 
  • Experience in all aspects of the software development process including design, implementation, testing and delivery 
  • Strong programming skills in PHP, APACHE, MYSQL, Java & C++ on the Windows platform
  • Working knowledge of Oracle RDBMS and crystal 
  • Client-side application development experience, including GUI development and QA elements such as installation testing 
  • Experience with object-oriented design and development principles, including experience developing heavily threaded applications, debugging concurrency issues, etc. 
  • Experience with specific technologies including Microsoft Windows, COM/Automation, DHTML, Visual Studio, C++, Visual Basic, XML, etc. 
  • Experience creating information access applications, including front ends to databases and a strong knowledge of Internet standards and protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, various authentication methods, SOAP, XMLRPC, etc.) 
  • Any combination of qualifications and experience
