Under the general direction of the Chief Biomedical Engineering the incumbent is responsible for inspecting medical equipment and solving complex problems in the field. Includes the diagnosis, repair and calibrating of difficult technical equipment.

 

Qualification & Experience:

  • Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic Engineering 
  • Certificate in Computer studies 
  • One (1) year experience in a similar field 

 

Key Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Inspects newly acquired medical devices and systems for safety and functionality in accordance with the departmental Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) procedures. 
  • Complete performance assurance and electrical safety testing. 
  • Perform preventative/scheduled maintenance on medical devices as required. 
  • Respond to medical equipment problems in clinical areas. Evaluate, troubleshoot and correct problems up to and including those requiring a moderate level of diagnostic skill and having a moderate to high level of complexity. Determine the need to remove and/or replace malfunctioning medical devices from service and implement accordingly. 
  • Perform equipment repairs of substantial difficulty to a level requiring generic test instrumentation or diagnostic software. 
  • Participate in medical equipment evaluations, installations and upgrades 
  • Make periodic rounds of assigned clinical areas to assess operation of medical devices and systems. Notes trends and works with Team Leader to develop and implement solutions to address recurring problems. 
  • Instruct clinical and technical staff and other support personnel on the operation, safe use, care and handling, and user maintenance procedures for medical equipment. 
  • Use computer database to thoroughly and accurately document inspections, repairs, maintenance procedures in a timely manner. Documents and maintains accurate and current inventory records of all replacement and repaired parts 
  • Perform on-call duties (schedule rotation) in providing in-house repairs and assistance as needed after normal working hours, weekend and public holidays.
